Description:
Donna is a Smilodon, also known as a saber tooth tiger. She was created from scrap we found on site at the ranch where she lives. From parts of an old zipline tower to remnants of old trailers and boat parts, her body tells the human footprint on the land. The same footprint that lead to her original demise. Her resurrection represents the fierceness of nature and the uniqueness of the saber tooth tiger.
She was first created for the 2017 Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival, guarding the gates to the main stages. She has remained on the land as permanent piece of art for all future events and festivals.
About the Wild Life Series with Joel Dean Stockdill:
Wild Life is an ongoing exploration of process which conjures native, animal forms using discarded material found locally. The results are a conversation between land, animal and human. Each work has been commissioned without renderings to enable an intuitive method, making space for animal intervention. The following creatures are large scale sculptural sketches. Each beast is conceived, hand cut and built freestyle by a dedicated 1-3 person team with an average of 3 weeks build time.
